WHAT TURNED THE YOUNG TUFAS ON AT GORROKOP

Largely consistent C-14 results from three sequences at Gorrokop on th e Ghaap Escarpment suggest that lime tufa accretion there since approx imately 19 kyr BP was largely confined to approximately 13-11 kyr when proxy evidence from the sites of Kathu Pan 2 and 5, Equus Cave and Wo nderwerk Cave indicate that cooler and drier conditions than at presen t prevailed in the northern Cape Province.
