P. Nijkamp et Hj. Scholten, SPATIAL INFORMATION-SYSTEMS - DESIGN, MODELING, AND USE IN PLANNING, International journal of geographical information systems, 7(1), 1993, pp. 85-96
This article focuses on the role of spatial information systems in reg
ional and urban planning. Experiences on the design, modelling and use
of such systems are briefly commented upon. Special attention is then
devoted to the potential of geographical information systems. Next th
e question of designing tailor-made information systems for planning i
s discussed. A triple layer methodology for integrating information sy
stems in planning models is proposed, with a particular view on three
steps: conceptual reflection, prototype experimentation and software d
esign of operational software. Then, the link between information syst
ems and spatial planning models is examined. The article concludes wit
h a discussion on trajectories of choice for optimum planning uses of
a given data input vis-a-vis optimum data inputs for given planning us
es.
