The beta-methoxy alcohol HOCMe2CH2OMe (1) yields monomeric (mononuclea
r), highly volatile and soluble complexes M(OCMe2CH2OMe)3 3a, b of chr
omium(III) and bismuth(III), respectively, upon treatment with the ami
de precursors Cr[N(iPr)2]3 (2 a) and Bi[N(SiMe3)2]3 (2 b). A single-cr
ystal X-ray diffraction analysis of 3 a was performed because of the n
ovelty of this particular compound being the first thermostable monome
ric alkoxide of trivalent chromium. 3a exhibits an octahedral structur
e with six oxygen atoms surrounding the metal atom. Three chelating O,
O' ligands coordinate to Cr(III) in a mer configuration.
