Re. Weller et al., IMPAIRED RENAL-FUNCTION IN OWL MONKEYS (AOTUS-NANCYMAI) INFECTED WITHPLASMODIUM-FALCIPARUM, Memorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 87, 1992, pp. 435-442
Impaired renal function was observed in sixteen Aotus nancymai 25 and
3 months following infection with the Uganda Palo Alto strain of Plasm
odium falciparum- Decrease were noted in the clearance of endogenous c
reatinine, creatinine excretion, and urine volume while increases were
observed in serum urea nitrogen, urine protein, urine potassium, frac
tional excretion of phosphorus and potassium, and activities of urinar
y enzymes. The results were suggestive of glomerulonephropathy and chr
onic renal disease.
