Abstract
The critical frequencies of wound paper rolls in rotogravure presses w ere measured with modal impact tests and with ultrasonic sensors durin g roll unwinding. The data indicate that poor wind quality greatly imp acts the critical frequency of the roll in the unwind stand. Thus, sat isfactory roll structure is vital for reliable press performance. More over, the CD modulus and the density of wound paper are also believed to impact press performance. Therefore, it appears that published mode ls do not reliably estimate the roll's critical frequency.
