The oxidation behaviour of Fe- 19,5 Cr-4,5 Al single crystals (110), (
111) has been investigated to obtain reference data for further oxidat
ion experiments on materials of the same composition but doped with yt
trium. The oxidation of annealed specimens showing Al surface segregat
ion and unannealed (without Al-enrichment) samples was carried out at
different temperatures in an UHV-chamber at an oxygen pressure of abou
t 10(-7) mbar. During oxidation Auger spectra (20 ... 70 eV) were take
n and LEED-patterns were photographed before and after oxidation if de
tectable. It has been shown that the type of oxide formed was dependen
t on the chemical composition of the surface and the oxidation tempera
ture.
