Abstract
The absorption, emission, and excitation spectra of germanium and tin
octaethylporphyrin chloride (OEPGeCl2, OEPSnCl2) in some selected orga
nic solvents of different polarities have been studied. Quantitative t
reatment of the solvent effect on the absorption spectra indicates the
importance of electrophilic solvent properties in the determination o
f the (B) band position. The fluorescence quantum yields in the select
ed solvents were determined and correlated with the specific and non-s
pecific solvent parameters. The fluorescence lifetimes were determined
. The fluorescence of the compounds were found to be quenched by an el
ectron-deficient molecule. The bimolecular quenching rate constants we
re calculated and the quenching was found to be diffusion controlled,
