Abstract
1,4-Polyisoprene (natural rubber) containing carbon black fillers (typ es N 220, N 330, and N 550) was crosslinked with dicumyl peroxide or s ulphur together with the accelerator zinc-2-mercaptobenzothiazole (ZMB T). Quantitative determination of the carbon black filler was possible by metathesis degradation with 1-octene. It was found that the cataly st system WCl6/(C2H5)3Al2Cl3 is suitable for this purpose, presumably due to the formation of CH=CH groups in a side reaction. The metathesi s degradation was effective if the degree of crosslinking of the vulca nizates was not too high.
