Abstract
The toxicity of cholecalciferol in the rabbit was evaluated as part of an assessment of alternative toxins to sodium monofluoroacetate (1080 ) and pindone for large-scale rabbit control in the South Island of Ne w Zealand. After a dose-ranging study spanning the known LD50 values f or other mammals (up to 400 mg kg - 1) an acute toxicity study establi shed an LD50 of 9 mg kg - 1 and LD95 of 18 mg kg - 1 for the rabbit, w hich proved very susceptible to cholecalciferol.
