Electron-impact excitation of CO plays an important role in Planetary
atmospheres and interstellar clouds. At the present time, serious dicr
epancies exist among excitation cross sections reported in the literat
ure for this molecule. We measured electron-impact excitation cross se
ctions for B1SIGMA+<--X1SIGMA+, C1SIGMA+<--X1SIGMA+ and E1PI <--X1SIGM
A+ states of CO at 100 eV impact energy using electron energy-loss spe
ctroscopy.
