High-resolution spectroscopy studies of hyperfine structures of stable
terms in N-14 I, II, and III by quantum-beat and rf resonance spectro
scopy after grazing-ion-surface scattering are reported on. From the d
ata, the electric quadrupole moment of the N-14 nucleus Q = 20.0+/-0.2
mb and the quadrupole coupling constants eQq(at)/h of N-14 atoms in 2
p and 2p2 configurations have been deduced. Extrapolation yields eQq(a
t)/h = 11.2+/-0.2 MHz for a single electron in the ground term of the
2p3 configuration of the neutral atom.
