A series of organoindium compounds containing the cyclopentyl ligand (
cyclopentyl = C5H9) has been prepared and characterized by elemental a
nalysis and spectroscopic means (H-1 and C-13 NMR, IR, mass spectrosco
py). Reaction of (C5H9)MgCl with InCl3 in the 3:1 or 2:1 molar ratio g
ave In(C5H9)3 and In(C5H9)2Cl, respectively. The latter can be obtaine
d also by ligand exchange between InCl3 and In(C5H9)3. In(C5H9)2Cl rea
cts easily with LiNEt2 and LiPyr (HPyr = pyrazole) giving In(C5H9)2NEt
2 and In(C5H9)2Pyr, respectively. On the basis of mass spectroscopy In
(C5H9)2Cl, the amide and the pyrazolide derivatives are dimers in the
vapour phase.
