Abstract
The first project under the US Environmental Protection Agency's small systems technology initiative, which was designed to generate simpler treatment technologies for small systems, has been completed. At Quai l Creek, located about 60 mi northwest of Austin, Texas, ion exchange was used to reduce radium concentrations in the well water. Although t he project was successful, the authors caution that this technology ma y not be universally applicable to small systems because of certain si te-specific advantages held by this system.
