The surface roughening transition of Ag(110) is investigated using ene
rgy-resolved He beam scattering. The analysis is carried out on the sp
ecular peak along the [001] crystal direction and in the out-of-phase
condition. Anomalous decreasing of the peak intensity above 700 K is o
bserved. The behavior of the incoherent intensity rules out anharmonic
effects. Finally, peak shape analysis sets the roughening temperature
at 910 +/- 15 K.
