Abstract
The structure of the Au(110) surface was analysed by LEED and HRLEED e xperiments in the temperature range between 40 and 917 K. Monatomic st eps in the [110] direction at T < T(c), a roughening transition at T > T(c), and enhanced thermal expansion normal to the surface at T > T(c ) were observed.
