Abstract
Lipase from Penicillium simplicissimum catalyzes the stereospecific es terification of menthol with fatty acids. The studies on the specifici ty of this new lipase were carried out using (+), (-) and racemic ment hol with water soluble enzyme entrapped in microemulsion systems stabi lized with sodium(bis-2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) as surfactant, in isooctane. Microemulsions appear to be an effective and fast syste m for racemic resolution of alcohols.
