Abstract
The interfacing of biologically intact sensing structures to electrode s is leading to a new area on the borderline between neuroelectrophysi ology and biosensor technology. The leading personality in this field, Gary Rechnitz, University of Manoa at Hawaii, overviews the origins l eading to the present state-of-the-art and gives a some outlook on the future prospects of this interesting field.
