Abstract
Investigation of the Tanzanian Dendrosenecio kilimanjari subsp. cotton ii resulted in the isolation of the cinchona alkaloid, cinchonidine (2 ). Conversion of cinchonidine to deoxycinchonidine was achieved in hig h yield using zinc dust in aqueous sulphuric acid. This illustrates th e first reduction of a quinoline system using these reagents.
