EVALUATION AND PERSPECTIVES OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN BRAZILIAN INFECTIOUS ENDEMIAS

Considering the scientific and technological developments of the Healt h Sector in Brazil, the area of generation of knowledge on endemic dis eases is recognized as relevant priority. The assessment of the relate d lines for Research and Development (R&D) constitutes the basis for d escribing immediate perspectives and priorities. Analysis is proceeded in two distinct and complementary levels. at first, basic epidemiolog ic characteristics and Health Services demands are reviewed, later sci entific and technological difficulties are identified. The studied end emics are Malaria, South American Trypanosomiasis, Leishmaniasis, Schi stosomiasis, Yellow Fever, Rabies and Filariasis.
