Abstract
Mainly induced by embryological causes, children born with anorectal m alformations show a high incidence of associated malformations. Beside s the anorectal anomalies and problems of the urogenital tract, malfor mations of the spine and syndromes such as the tethered cord must also be taken into consideration. Complications resulting from surgery in the pelvis should not be neglected. The recurrence of fistulas plays a n important role in the complications, but, fortunately, does not show the expected high incidence. Urinary incontinence has been observed i n up to 19% of these patients.
