Dr. Holleman et al., THE EFFECT OF SLEEVED ARMS ON OSCILLOMETRIC BLOOD-PRESSURE MEASUREMENT, Journal of general internal medicine, 8(6), 1993, pp. 325-326
The authors measured the blood pressures of 36 subjects who had barc a
nd sleeved arms to determine the effect of wearing sleeves on automati
c oscillometric blood pressure measurements. They found no statistical
ly significant effect of sleeves on the measurement of either systolic
or diastolic blood pressure (p > 0. 1 5). However, based on confidenc
e intervals of possible sleeve effects, the authors recommend repeatin
g blood pressure measurements on bared arms when the sleeved-arm oscil
lometric measurements are at least 86 mm Hg diastolic or 135 mm Hg sys
tolic.
