Abstract
Crystal structure and magnetic susceptibility behaviour of UOSe single crystals have been studied. UOSe crystallizes in the tetragonal PbFCl -type structure (space group P4/nmm) with the lattice parameters: a = 390.38(5) pm and c = 698.05(9) pm. It orders antiferromagnetically at T(N) = 100 +/- 2 K and exhibits a very strong anisotropy in the suscep tibility vs temperature variation. The magnetic and thermodynamic prop erties of UOSe are successfully interpreted in the framework of a pert urbative ab initio crystal field approach.
