The thermoplastic properties of agglomerated concentrates have been de
termined, and the influence of sinter and pellet chemical composition
on blast furnace technical operating indices has been established. The
results have been used to determine the spatial distribution of the c
ohesive zone, the main factor in economical blast furnace operation, i
n a 3200 m3 blast furnace. The influence of the zone parameters on gas
flow distribution has been determined. A simplified method for monito
ring the position of the cohesive zone is described, and the charging
and operating conditions for a blast furnace of the given volume to pr
oduce the most favourable cohesive zone are specified.
