H. Stutz et J. Mertes, INFLUENCE OF THE STRUCTURE ON THERMOSET CURE KINETICS, Journal of polymer science. Part A, Polymer chemistry, 31(8), 1993, pp. 2031-2037
The influence of molecular structure on cure kinetics was studied usin
g a new approach for characterizing the cure kinetics of thermosets in
the glass transition region. Reactions in or near the glassy state ar
e controlled by chain mobility, where the whole structural unit underg
oes small-angle oscillation motions around the network link. All struc
tural features affecting the mobility such as stiffness, bulky structu
res, substitution, symmetry effects, and functionality lead to high se
gment activation energies and slow final curing. The influence of the
segment activation energy on the kinetic curves is also discussed.
