The PVT properties of petroleum oils were studied using a modified Pen
g-Robinson equation of state and a characterization procedure develope
d for this purpose. Experimental data on constant mass expansion and d
ifferential vaporization of petroleum fluids from different fields wer
e used. It was shown that currently available experimental properties
of petroleum cuts (densities, molecular weights and normal boiling tem
peratures) can be used to obtain satisfactory predictions of the PVT p
roperties of crude oils. The present results were compared with those
obtained by using the method proposed by Pedersen. Both methods gave g
ood predictions of the liquid shrinkage curve and saturation pressures
. The tank oil density was also predicted satifactorily with the prese
nt model.
