Measurements of the magnetostriction on high-T(c) materials and on V3S
i are reported which were performed while the temperature was cycled.
It is shown that the decrease of the magnetostriction with increasing
temperature is due to the decrease of the critical current. When cooli
ng the samples again the length does not change. This is due to strong
flux pinning. The method therfore provides a test of the pinning stre
ngth.
