Abstract
High temperature superconductor (HTS) magnetic bearings offer many adv antages. Their applications are most promising in systems which provid e the necessary cryogenic environment. The hydrogen turbopump of a nuc lear propulsion engine is such a system. The combination of an HTS bea ring and a fluid film bearing could over-come problems experienced wit h rolling element bearings in rocket engine turbo pumps.
