Abstract
The first autopsy study of a child with acquired immunodeficiency synd rome in India is reported. A 2-year-old girl with failure to thrive an d pneumonia died in our hospital. Antibodies to HIV were detected in t he serum by ELISA and Western blot techniques. The autopsy findings in cluded precocious involution of the thymus, splenic atrophy, lymphoid interstitial pneumonia and cryptosporidiosis of the colon.
