ARE THERE PROGNOSTIC PARAMETERS THAT ARE ABLE TO PREDICT THE SUCCESS OF INTRAARTERIAL CHEMOTHERAPY IN NONRESECTABLE LIVER METASTASES OF COLORECTAL-CARCINOMA

When compared with systemic therapy, hepatic arterial chemotherapy sig
nificantly increases the response rate for hepatic metastases from col
orectal carcinomas. However, only 2 studies showed a significant prolo
ngation of survival. In our study on 54 patients tumor related charact
eristics and the response to regional chemotherapy were correlated to
the success of the treatment. In a linear discriminant analysis the re
sponse to regional chemotherapy was the main prognostic factor for the
1-year survival, rate, followed by positive lymph nodes in the Lig. h
epatoduodenale. The other pretherapeutic factors such as liver involve
ment and CEA rate were of less importance.
