In Canada there is a growing wave of public fear about forest industry
operating practices at the mills and in the woods. This fear is sudde
nly spreading in the market-place. Much of the fear is based upon perc
eption and misinformation. This paper is about the process being used
at the Repap Miramichi operation to develop public trust, credibility,
and confidence. The company has no departments for public relations o
r media relations. The process is based upon open honest communication
on a regular basis.
