The G + C content in a sequenced region of 27 kb of the Nocardia lacta
mdurans genome is 70.4 and 70.6% in the 14 characterized ORFs, showing
an extreme average G + C content (94.9%) in the third codon position.
The codon usage parameters of the N. lactamdurans genes studied are c
losely related and depart weakly from the values of other species of t
he genus Nocardia. The homologies and differences in the codon usage b
etween N. lactamdurans and Streptomyces sp. or other high-G + C Gram-p
ositive genera are analysed.
