The measurement of space location in insulating material is necessary
to know phenomenon which are important such as the breakdown. In this
article, we show the precision and the reliability of the thermal step
method by using some validations. The experimental validation consist
s in putting, between two insulating slabs of unknow thickness, a plan
e of charges realized by an aluminium sheet which has been submitted t
o a high tension before the measure. The experiment holds in the order
to determine charges and to deduce the thickness of each slab. We val
id the numerical treatments by simulations ; by using a known distribu
tion of charge, we calcul the current ; from this current we determine
the new distribution of charge which is compared to the first one. We
valid also the thermal step method by using two different numerical t
reatments (by Fourier and by derivation) which are applied to an exper
imental current.
