M. Born et al., LOCAL ION TEMPERATURE-MEASUREMENTS IN THE TOKAMAK UNITOR BY COLLECTIVE THOMSON SCATTERING, Plasma physics and controlled fusion, 35(3), 1993, pp. 391-396
Collective Thomson scattering has been applied to determine ion temper
atures in the small-sized, low-density tokamak UNITOR with high spatia
l and temporal resolution. As scatter light source a 400 kW D2O laser
has been applied. The scatter signals are detected by means of a heter
odyne technique. At an electron density of 3 x 10(19) m-3 and an elect
ron temperature of 180 eV the ion temperature reaches 20 eV +/- 16 eV
at 1 ms and 60 eV +/- 25 eV at 2 ms after ignition. The measured ion d
ata are confirmed by an energy balance.
