High resolution time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction has been per
formed at room temperature on the tetragonal compound YCo9.6V2.5 (Spac
e group I4/mmm). A Rietveld profile refinement of the powder pattern w
as used to derive detailed structural parameters. The V atoms are foun
d to preferentially occupy the 8i site, leaving only small occupancies
for both the 8f and 8j sites.
