P. Thouvenot et al., AMERICIUM TRACE DETERMINATION IN AQUEOUS AND SOLID MATRICES BY TIME-RESOLVED LASER-INDUCED FLUORESCENCE, Radiochimica Acta, 61(1), 1993, pp. 15-21
Time-Resolved Laser-Induced Fluorescence (TRLIF) is applied to the det
ermination of americium traces in solution and solid matrix (ThO2). Fl
uorescence lifetimes and nonradiative decay rates are measured in vari
ous media (inorganic, organic and solids). A difference of four orders
of magnitude is observed between the lifetime in organic media and in
solid matrices. The results are compared also with those obtained for
europium. The investigations show that the laser-induced fluorescence
technique provides much higher sensitivity for Am3+ traces in solid m
atrix (10(-10) M) than in aqueous complexing agents (10(-8) M).
