Rf. Kiefl et al., COHERENCE PEAK AND SUPERCONDUCTING ENERGY-GAP IN RB3C60 OBSERVED BY MUON SPIN RELAXATION, Physical review letters, 70(25), 1993, pp. 3987-3990
Muon spin relaxation resulting from spin exchange scattering of endohe
dral muonium (mu+ e-) with thermal electronic excitations has been obs
erved in the fullerene superconductor Rb3C60. The temperature dependen
ce of T1(-1) shows a coherence peak just below T(c) and can be fit to
the conventional Hebel-Slichter theory for spin relaxation in a superc
onductor with a broadened BCS density of states. The average energy ga
p for electronic excitations, DELTA/k(B)=53(4) K or 2DELTA/k(B)T(c)=3.
6(3), is consistent with the BCS weak-coupling limit.
