Hydrogenations of three individual substrates (alpha-methylstyrene, be
nzaldehyde, cyclohexanone) were carried out on a ruthenium catalyst. O
n the basis of these results, selectivities of competitive hydrogenati
ons of alpha-methylstyrene-benzaldehyde, benzaldehyde-cyclohexanone an
d alpha-methylstyrene-cyclohexanone binary mixtures were evaluated. It
was shown that the reactivity of individual substrates could be subst
antially different when hydrogenated competitively with another compou
nd in a binary system.
