A NOTE ON THE LIENARD-WIECHERT POTENTIAL CONTROVERSY

Whitney recently questioned the verity of the Lienard-Wiechert potenti als in classical electrodynamics. Long considered beyond questioning, these potentials have been shown by her not to be manifestly covariant as they appear to be, because of their retardation. Moreover, Whitney has offered substitute potentials which she claims satisfy Maxwell's equations. Here we question this claim.
