R. Valarivan et al., REACTION OF BENZYL ALCOHOL OVER THE HYDROGEN STORAGE INTERMETALLIC COMPOUND MG2CU, Reaction kinetics and catalysis letters, 59(2), 1996, pp. 343-350
The reaction of benzyl alcohol over the hydrogen storage intermetallic
s Mg2Cu was studied in the temperature range of 573-773 K. Benzaldehyd
e and toluene, the major products, were produced by dehydrogenation an
d disproportionation reactions, respectively. Anthracene, stilbene and
benzyltoluenes were also formed due to benzylation reaction. Since th
e benzylation course was strongly influenced by shape selectivity cons
iderations, these were produced in minor amounts. Below 673 Y Mg2Cu be
haves like metals while above 673 K it behaves like oxide systems in i
ts catalytic properties.
