Two adult males and two juveniles of Thaumatocypris echinata Muller, 1
906 were found in the near-bottom layer off the west coast of Madagasc
ar at the depth of 180-1220 m. The first description of male morpholog
y is given. The sexual dimorphism manifests itself in the structure of
mandibular endopodite instead of endopodite of second antenna as it w
as known for other halocypridids previously. The contents of the gut s
uggest that the species is either a carnivore or scavenger.
