J. Clinton et al., DIFFERENTIAL PATTERN OF BETA-AMYLOID PROTEIN DEPOSITION WITHIN CORTICAL SULCI AND GYRI IN ALZHEIMERS-DISEASE, Neuropathology and applied neurobiology, 19(3), 1993, pp. 277-281
We have quantified the pattern of beta-amyloid protein (betaAP) deposi
tion in the sulci and gyri of the frontal cortex in Alzheimer's diseas
e. The distribution pattern in the frontal cortex gyri is unequivocall
y different from the pattern found in the frontal sulci. These finding
s, in conjunction with our previous studies, reflect a differential vu
lnerability between the sulci and the gyri with respect to Alzheimer's
disease pathology, sulci being affected to a greater extent. It is pr
obable that the different patterns of deposition relate to the underly
ing cytoarchitecture of the cortex.
