The assimilation of communication and computing technologies in higher
education is seen as a two-stage process. The addition of technology
to support the.traditional structures and processes are Stage One chan
ges. In Stage Two, now under way, technology acts as a catalyst in tra
nsforming the university itself. In order to adapt to the new ''transf
orming technologies,'' a new model of the university and its many inte
rlocking structures is necessary.
