Hype-ard has brought the creation of hypertext materials within the -a
ch of both faculty and students who are technically unsophisticated. F
or faculty this development presents pedagogical opportunities to crea
te individualized, interactive learning experiences even in the increa
singly larger classes with which we are faced. At Potsdam we have deve
loped a hypertest environment called ''Test & Context'' for presentati
on of literary, graphic, or historical ''texts.'' Within this environm
ent we have realized three hypertext documents to demonstrate its pote
ntial. These documents are currently in use in classes and one has bee
n selected by Apple Computer, Inc. ''to demonstrate how Macintosh can
be used for instruction and research.'' We have now proceeded beyond t
he use of Hypercard for presentation of materials to students and are
investigating how student creation of hypertext material can be integr
ated into traditional courses.
