Abstract
Dropout prevention (student school retention) efforts have received a great deal of recent public attention due to a realization of the magn itude of this problem. The authors contend that, through no fault of t heir own, teachers receive insufficient training to confront the probl ems realistically. Options are provided to increase the potential of l ocal schools to manage student school retention efforts.
