Infrared multiphoton dissociation of trifluoroacetic acid by a pulsed
CO2. laser yields HF, COF2, CO2, CO, F3CCO2CF2H and C2F4 as photoprodu
cts. Infrared fluorescence from the photoproducts, CO2 and COF2, is ob
served and analysed. Intermolecular V-V and V-R/T relaxation mte const
ants for CO2 decay are found to be 1.7 x 10(5) and 1.4 x 10(4) s-1 Tof
f-1, whereas for COF2 decay these two relaxation rate constants are 7.
3 x 10(4) and 8.9 x 10(3) s-1 Torr-1, respectively.
