The optimisation -of flotation column operation relies mostly on the i
dentification of the key variables to be controlled, how accurately th
ey can be measured and how coordinately they can be dynamically influe
nced. Even though substantial efforts have been made during the last y
ears, there is still a lack of process knowledge, which partially inhi
bits further improvement. In this work some advances in solving measur
ement problems of operating variables, in obtaining and using multivar
iable dynamic models, and the experience of testing different control
strategies and control algorithms on flotation columns, are discussed.
