Abstract
The conformations of (RS)- and (SS)-O,O-(2,2'-binaphthyl)-N-(alpha-ben zylethyl) phosphamidate (binaphthol phosphamidate) were examined by me ans of NMR, single-crystal x-ray diffraction and molecular mechanics c alculations. There are physical and chemical differences between the t wo diastereoisomers such as different abilities to form clathrates wit h ethanol. These differences provide the theoretical basis for the res olution of racemic binaphthol with optically active or-phenylethylamin e. (C) 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
