The paper presents a transmission network model suitable for use in mu
lti-area reliability models which utilize a Monte Carlo simulation app
roach. The transmission network model utilizes the REI equivalent whic
h permits accurate modeling of transmission ties between areas while r
educing computational burden and permitting variations in area generat
ing capacity and loads as required in reliability studies. The paper a
lso presents a computationally efficient approach to generation redisp
atch as required to model mutual assistance between areas in multi-are
a reliability studies. Sample results are given for the IEEE 118 bus t
est system and a large power pool with 13 areas.
