Abstract
The Transient Energy Function (TEF) method is a direct method of power system transient stability analysis. While research work on the subje ct continues, questions have been raised regarding potential applicati ons of the method for on-line dynamic security analysis (DSA). This pa per investigates some of the problems and suggests solutions for use o f TEF in DSA, based on tests using real utility data. The test cases w ere provided by Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G). A pre release version of a TEF program called DIRECT (version 2.9) was used. The tests indicate that TEF does have a place in DSA in conjunction w ith other available DSA methods.
