Ultra-wideband transient microwave scattering measurements are perform
ed using optoelectronically switched planar antennas. The laser-based
system produces freely propagating bursts of picosecond duration elect
romagnetic radiation, with a bandwidth extending from 5 to over 70 GHz
. Measurements are presented for scattering from one and two conductin
g strips and from a conducting sphere. All measurements are compared t
o theoretical computations.
